ICC adopts a ‘short’ rule for men’s cricket (Satire)

Yuvraj Singh, Indian cricketer. 4 Test series ...

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has ruled that from July 2011 onwards, all men players are to wear sleeveless Tees and shorts while representing their sides on the cricket field.

The rules apply across the board and are applicable for international as well as domestic games.

It is the ICC’s desire to make the sport ‘more attractive and presentable’ to the Rest of The World.

The T-shirts are to be V-necked and the shorts cannot extend to the knees. They have to be half-way across the thighs.

ICC President, Sharad Pawar, said: “It is a matter of concern that there are only 10 Test-playing nations and there is an urgent need to spread the game to other shores. This is just one of the moves in a multi-pronged strategy towards that end.”

Yuvraj Singh reacted by saying that most players practice in shorts and Tees.

“Now, we have to be extra careful to shave under our armpits before we play. I am considering waxing and permanent defoliation as remedies for the problem.” said the Punjab XI dasher.

Sachin Tendulkar was more reticent in his remarks: “The ICC must have come to this decision after considerable deliberations. I am merely a player and have to abide by the rules. Besides, I’ll be retiring soon.”

Other players were worried about catching a cold in chilly weather. The ICC might allow cricketers to don sweaters while fielding.

The ICC denied any rumours of extending the rule to women’s cricket.

“No such attempt towards forcing women to play the game in skirts is on the anvil. We do not wish to be considered ‘sexist’.” said a BCCI spokesperson.

Quote of the day:
Whenever I dwell for any length of time on my own shortcomings, they gradually begin to seem mild, harmless, rather engaging little things, not at all like the staring defects in other people’s characters. – Margaret Halsey
