Adam Gilchrist rallies Kings XI Punjab to cusp of IPL play-offs

Kings XI Punjab

Royal Challengers Bangalore were brought down to earth by a double whammy of G-forces.

Adam Gilchrist came to the party exhibiting his prowess in a master-class of aggressive batting at the top of the order. In his previous 12 games he aggregated a mere 226 at a measly average of 18.33.

Combining with Shaun Marsh, the Australian great produced runs at will and with such abandon, that Virat Kohli—captaining in Daniel Vettori’s absence—was left flustered, flabbergasted and clueless.

The ton was brought up and celebrated with a huge smile of relief.

“What goes up must come down.” Gravity says so.

The law of averages caught up with West Indian buccaneer, Chris Gayle, as Praveen Kumar had him groping in the first over of the RCB innings. A duck for Gayle was an ominous portent of things to come.It was a sorry procession of batsmen from the hut and back that followed.

This year’s  IPL has been resurrected by the exploits of Christopher Henry Gayle. Kings XI Punjab’s charge for a play-off spot underlines the glorious uncertainties of the sport.

And there’s more than a hint of romanticism to be captured in the bastardised form of the game.

In their final encounter,Kings XI Punjab face Deccan Chargers in the lovely, breath-taking surroundings of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

Shaun Marsh, with 79 not out, pouched the orange cap.
