Soderling clinches Paris Masters in style: Heartbreak for Monfils again

Soderling takes home the Paris Masters for the first time.

Monfils could not use the momentum of the crowd to make inroads into the Swede’s game.

The first set was an one-sided affair with the tall Nordic breaking twice to take the set 6-1.

The Monfils of old was back in the second set but Soderling was just too strong and held his nerve in the tie-break to take the title.

Even a diving Monfils could not stand in the big Swede’s way.

Perhaps, Soderling’s doting girlfriend on the sidelines had a hand to play in the Swede’s huge win.

For Monfils, it is heartbreak once again. He made the finals last year as well losing to Novak Djokovic.

The final score: 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) to Soderling.

One hour and seventeen minutes was all it took.

I just wonder if beating Federer is unlucky for the victors specially when it comes in the earlier rounds. Does the Swiss soften up his opponents for the kill?

Soderling, Berdych, Djokovic and Monfils. Does knocking out the great man leave no gas in the tank for the next encounter(s)?

Just a wild thought! Have a great day!
