Indian teams for lagori,kho-kho,gilli-danda etc. cleared for Pakistan tours (Satire)

SHARM EL SHEIKH/EGYPT, 19MAY08 - Syed Yousaf R...

Gilani and Manmohan Singh will be in attendance at all the games

In the wake of the Indian government’s decision to resume cricketing ties with Pakistan, the sports ministry has decided to go ahead and clear a slew of sporting tours between the two nations over the next few months.

Despite the removal of any barrier to bilateral series between the two neighbours, the cricketing calendar does not have any slots free until 2012.

Sports Minister Ajay Maken announced that  a series of high-profile encounters in traditional Indian games that  empathise the common cultural heritage of the two nations is the best way forward—increasing mutual understanding ,touching all spheres of Indian-Pakistani interactions.

The national sports associations for lagori, kho-kho,gilli-danda,book cricket, chor police, hide & seek have been dispatched circulars seeking representation of teams representing the best players in each category.

This is the first time since Independence that so many sporting contingents will descend on Pakistan—within a one year period.

The series will be played across the Pakistani countryside bringing sport to every province of the Islamic nation.

It is hoped that these games will be the forerunner of Olympic-style competitions occurring once every four years.

(All facts and “quotes” in this story are fictional, but you knew that already, didn’t you?)
