One French Open, six Wimbledons, five US Opens and four Australian Opens (66 ATP titles); you could hardly call his trophy cupboard bare. His rivalry with Nadal is the stuff of legend and an enduring story for the ages. His challenger needs just one more Slam to move into double digits and Borg territory.

Poor Nadal! If only he had known! Federer may have just a solitary Slam to his credit this year but he sure knows how to throw a year-end party.
He conquered the World Tour Finals for the fifth time, one of among a select few to do so.

Sania Mirza continues to delight her Indian fans. She followed up her CommonWealth Games individual silver with an Asiad bronze at Guangzhou. Mirza may be struggling with her ranking on the WTA tour but is enjoying her time in the sun post her recent marriage to Shoaib Malik and a renaissance representing India. Sania and her partner Vishnu Vardhan tamed Tamarine Tanasugarn and Sanchai Ratiwatana 6-3, 6-7 (7-3), 10-5 in the mixed doubles semis to assure the Hyderabadi of another silver—at least.

Rafael Nadal has been endorsed twice in the past few days.
John McEnroe has gone on record terming him the best athlete among the current lot of players; probably as good as his contemporary, Bjorn Borg.
He has rated him above Federer in that respect.
Soderling clinches Paris Masters in style: Heartbreak for Monfils again
Soderling takes home the Paris Masters for the first time.
Monfils could not use the momentum of the crowd to make inroads into the Swede’s game.
The first set was an one-sided affair with the tall Nordic breaking twice to take the set 6-1.
Soderling hangs tough to oust Llodra,Federer capitulates to Monfils
It will be Robin Soderling versus Gael Monfils this Sunday at the Paris Masters but not before both protagonists overcame hiccups en route to the final.
The first semi featured Michael Llodra—on a hot streak—against Swede Soderling.
The initial set went with serve 6-6. And it was Llodra—playing with the foot pressed to the accelerator—who romped home 7-0 in the tie-break.
That served as a wake-up call to Soderling who started to find his feet in the second, hitting his returns nice and deep. But it was all bazookas and Llodra’s brilliance until 5-5.
Soderling broke Llodra to go up 6-5 and then served out the set to make it 1-1.
Scintillating tennis continued with Llodra negating an early break to come roaring back into the match in the third set.

Nikolay Davydenko found out when he took on Michael Llodra in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters.
The 10th seed must have felt secure leading 4-3 in the first set, serving for the 8th game.
But Llodra broke back and the scores were soon level at 5-5.

Sania Mirza’s comeback to the WTA tour may not have quite taken off on the singles circuit but she’s certainly holding her end up in doubles.
Sania failed to secure a second doubles title this season . She and her partner Hsieh Su-wei lost 2-6 4-6 to third seeds Chang Kai-Chen and Chuang Chia-Jung in the summit clash of the ITF $ 1,00,000 tournament in Taipei.
Sania also missed out on the gold medal at the CommonWealth Games in New Delhi in the singles draw — battling all the way.
Somdev Devvarman will be representing India at the Guangzhou Asian Games from November 12 to 27,2010. Somdev was top seeded at the recently concluded CommonWealth Games and was one of the few elite Indian athletes who fulfilled expectations by clinching gold.
Roger Federer is enjoying a good run following his failed bid at a 17th Slam at the US Open. Two tournament victories in quick succession and a red-hot Federer jets into Paris seeking his 18th Masters hoping to equal Rafael Nadal’s record.
"I’m a bit worn-out, I’ve had a lot of matches, I’m hoping my mind and body hold up. But I don’t play until Wednesday and there will be time to recover. I’m confident that my form will carry me through." said the champion.
Nadal, his nemesis, has pulled out citing shoulder tendinitis. But he hopes to be ready for the season-ending World Tour Final in London.
Nadal had a fantastic 2010 reeling off three Grand Slams in quick succession to bring his haul to nine. This includes a Career Slam.
The World Tour Finals will be eagerly awaited; the only possibility of the two great champions facing off once more this year comes at this premier event.
