Greg Chappell takes over as coach from Bob Houghton (Satire)

Australian cricket great Greg Chappell has been chosen to replace Englishman Bob Houghton as coach of the Indian soccer team by the All-India Football Federation (AIFF).

Greg Chappell had expressed his desire to return to coaching an Indian team ;the AIFF responded by inviting him to take over the mantle from ousted Houghton.

AIFF general secretary, Kushal Das, said, “We need a coach who is out-spoken, enjoys the confidence of the players and who does not shy away from controversy.”

Lalit Modi, Shashi Tharoor short-listed for IOA presidency (Satire)

Following the arrest of Suresh Kalmadi by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) are frantically looking out for a successor to the high profile minister.

Two names have been short-listed.

The first is former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi who is currently in London.

The other name bandied about is former Minister of External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor.

Quick on the heels of Anjum Chopra’s request to the BCCI to hold an IPL for women cricketers, the premier sports administrative body in the country received another appeal— this time for an IPL constituting wives and girlfriends (WAGS) of cricketers.

The move is spearheaded by Australian spinner Shane Warne’s current love interest, Elizabeth Hurley and MS Dhoni’s wife, Sakshi.

Fed-up of being short-changed by the non-availability of key players, team honchos have decided to drive changes in the format of the IPL.

“After paying superstars millions of dollars, the least you could expect is that they would be on hand for the duration of the tournament.

But no such luck.”

“National team commitments are deemed more important”, complains a prominent  unnamed IPL co-owner.

The premier union of sports writers has written to the BCCI regarding the hectic Indian cricket calendar this year .

Beginning with the Ashes and the India-South Africa tour, followed by the World Cup and now the IPL, it has been one form of cricket followed by the other, with nary a break.

The IPL has been mired in controversies over the past year.

The Twitter spat between Lalit Modi and Shashi Tharoor was the spark that triggered a conflagration of sorts; IPL shenanigans were tabled on the floor of Parliament. Media darling, Tharoor, was forced to resign from his position of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

For the BCCI, it has not been a good week, by any standards. Their No. 1 Test side has floundered in the series that could decide who has bragging rights.

But it’s the two setbacks in the Mumbai High Court that will set the agenda this weekend when the working committee meets.

The BCCI are undecided how to tackle the adverse rulings against them in the court cases against the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab.

Should they pursue the matter further all the way to the Supreme Court? Or should they let laying dogs lie?
