A few random thoughts:

We are into the second day of the Lords’s Test between Sri Lanka and England. The home side leads 1-0 following a devastating collapse by the Lankans on the last day of a boring first Test. We don’t need T20 if we can have wickets falling like nine-pins in less than an hour.

Now, if only we had a way of figuring out which session of a Test match will have all the excitement. I’d buy season tickets.

There was much to celebrate this weekend for Indian sport.

Cricket

The Indian team ensured that they finished their group matches on a high relegating the Windies to fourth place in Group B.

Team India now face Australia in the quarter-finals at Motera, Ahmedabad.

The bowling has regained some of its zing with R Ashwin’s entry. Question marks remain especially about the lower order. Home advantage should count for something specially against a no-longer-mighty Australia.

Indian cricket fans guilty of counting their chickens before they’ve hatched?

Team India have played five games in the ICC ODI World Cup 2011. They have won three games, tied one and lost one.

The three victories have come against weaker teams—Ireland, Bangladesh and the Netherlands.

A tie with England and a loss to South Africa means that with one game left, India could either top the group or could , heaven forbid, not qualify.
