Somdev’s Tripura, a full-strength Australian Open and Serbian tennis politics

Somdev Devvarman continues to delight his many fans. His expressed desire to coach budding ,upcoming players from his home state has the Tripura government agog.

"As he belongs to Tripura, he would be very happy if he gets the scope to teach budding and young players from the northeastern states, where there is no dearth of talented and skilled players," Somdev’s father Pravanjan Kishore Devvarman  said.

Somdev will be given a hero’s welcome when he returns home on December 26. He is currently in Texas training with Andy Roddick.

The Fifth Slam: India Opens Her Heart To Top-Flight Tennis

The year is 2011. It is the august month of August.

The India Open is being launched with much fanfare.

The India Open is now officially the fifth Grand Slam tournament , the latest jewel in the ATP and WTA calendars.

In the wake of the unprecedented success of the Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi, this tournament has been given hallmark status.

India have thumbed their nose at the Chinese and have cornered a Grand Slam tournament.

This Slam has its unique challenges. The courts are mud and uncovered.

Play continues in the rain. Come rain or shine, play will continue.

A rain-delayed Monday US Open final dawns.

Can Djokovic repeat his moment of magic against the top seed, Rafael Nadal?

Nadal is the overwhelming favourite going into the Flushing Meadows final.

But Djokovic should look no further than his own box, more specifically his father wearing an extraordinarily loud T-shirt with the Joker’s mug smiling back at him for awesome motivation.

Djokovic’s dad , Srdjan Djokovic, dares to look ridiculous just so his son Djokovic can feel that he’s not alone struggling on that blue quad.
