The IPL Lull: Sunny still simmers, Chahar heads the domestic signup roster

The IPL saga saw a lull in the proceedings because of the Diwali holidays. Indian fans were quite content enjoying the fireworks on display at Motera with Sehwag and Bhajji eking out explosive knocks.

But the IPL has not quite escaped the news. The side actors have played their part.

Sunny Gavaskar stated that former BCCI president Sharad Pawar verbally promised him an additional sum for his services as a member of the IPL Governing Council. Gavaskar has been sending gentle reminders to the Board to pay him his dues; he claims that he has yet to receive any payment for his three years on the council. Pawar is currently the ICC president.

N Srinivasan , the BCCI secretary, has accused Gavaskar of demanding Rs. 20 crores for serving on the IPL council against the contracted Rs. 1 crore per year.

Lalit Modi has come out in support of the beleaguered ex-cricketer."A lot has been said about Sunny. All I can tell you is that in all my dealings with Sunny, I’ve never known him to be a liar or anything. Sunny has been forthright. I’m sure they’ll sort it out," Modi said in London.

Modi has also denied that he is in hiding. At the International Sports Event Management conference in London on the 3rd of November, 2010, the suspended IPL commissioner refused to address any of the corruption charges against him.

In IPL cricketing news, Deepak Chahar, the Rajasthan pace bowling sensation now tops the list of Ranji cricketers that IPL teams will be signing on. The now defunct Rajasthan Royals would have had first right of refusal since the bowler belongs to their catchment area. It is believed that Mumbai Indians and Pune Warriors are keen on the young lad.

The salary cap for domestic cricketers —not up for auction— is Rs. 10 lacs but the franchisees will be seducing players with blandishments outside the contract as well.

The Rajasthan Royals petition against the BCCI will move to centre-stage this week. It is expected that Kings XI Punjab will follow suit.

Let the battles begin!

The Internet is like alcohol in some sense. It accentuates what you would do anyway. If you want to be a loner, you can be more alone. If you want to connect, it makes it easier to connect. – Esther Dyson
