The Japanese are offended.

If Roger Federer had to compare himself to a robot, then why did he have to choose Robocop and not their beloved Giant Robot?

Surely a titan would prefer to compare himself to another?

The Swiss maestro clarified that he was not a machine and does not go from point to point like a Robocop.

The remark came after his second round victory over Spaniard Marcel Granollers at the Dubai Duty Free Championships.

So what does the great master ruminate over between points?

Perhaps, what he’s going to have for dinner.

“Um, maybe. I don’t know,” Federer replied to the cheeky reporter,”You think of many things.”

There could be a lot of things that could be whirling in the genius’ head. But you have got to marvel that he can still reel off points with the same languid ease and grace.

Wondering whether Charlene’s and Myla’s nappies have been changed that day, who’s going to babysit the girls when I play the next round, will the girls keep me awake tonight as well, could be some of the myriad thoughts that the Swiss must reflect on between points.

Playing a Gasquet or a Granollers is child’s play in comparison.

“Have they tried changing nappies at three in the morning? I don’t think so.”

On another note, what if Djokovic and the young brigade quoted this back to Roger from the Robocop movie:

The Japanese would feel vindicated.
