Muttiah Muralidharan admitted that there exists more than a modicum of ‘truth’ in Hashan Tillekaratne’s allegations of match-fixing in Sri Lanka.
The legendary off-spinner stated that he ,too ,indulged in match-fixing.
“My wife and I were fixed up. It was an arranged match and I don’t see anything wrong with it. It is a Indo-Sri Lanka collaboration that has worked to our mutual benefit.” said the Tamil , with a toothy grin.
Muralidharan’s wife, Madhi Malar, is a Chennai girl.
Indian cricketers, Yuvraj Singh and S Sreesanth, confessed that the ‘malaise’ of match-fixing has not left them unscathed.
The players have acceded to their parents’ wishes and will have their partners ‘match-fixed’ as well.
It is well-known in cricketing circles that Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni’s partners— Aarti and Sakshi—were ‘fixed or semi-fixed’.
Muralidharan expressed his surprise that Tillekaratne’s disclosure elicited so much comment and speculation in the media.
“This is a run-of-the-mill occurrence in the Indian sub-continent and is a continuation of an old tradition.Match-fixing happens all the time. What’s the big deal?” asserted the Delhi dasher, Sehwag.
Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik were unavailable for comment.
