In a fresh twist to the IPL saga, Vijay Mallya, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and Shah Rukh Khan have all decided to stand for BCCI elections.
The four owners of IPL franchises feel that it is in their best interests to serve as board members while at the same time retaining a fiscal interest in the IPL.
“If Srinivasan can hold office and have a team, why can’t we own a team and be office-bearers? It’s only fair.” said Vijay Mallya.
Shah Rukh Khan said: “It’s all fair in love and war.”
When asked to clarify whether it was love or war, the star replied: “I have to check my lines. The script says nothing about that.”
Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty were more up-front about their motives.
“As members of the Board, we can have the rules modified to suit us. What’s good for the goose is equally good for the gander.” remarked the dimpled actress.
Preity Zinta rebuffed rumours of getting back at the BCCI for forcing her to let Yuvraj Singh go.
Shilpa Shetty confided that she hopes to revive her acting career by making a path-breaking film on cricket, specifically the BCCI;this was one way of learning the inner workings of the richest sporting body in the country.
A C Muttiah threatened to file another public interest litigation (PIL) if any of the four were elected to the BCCI.
